My career to date has focused on applied research, conservation and project management. I have extensive field experience, having been based in Africa for fifteen years (1991-2006). My main occupational interests lie in directly linking conservation with livelihoods-oriented development, based on sound science, both biological and socio-economic. In 2006 I moved to the Centre for International Forestry Research, based in Indonesia and am the leader of the research domain: Managing the trade-offs between conservation and development at the landscape scale. I firmly believe that accessibility of research findings is fundamental to equitable information exchange and ensure that the dissemination of my work is undertaken, not only through academic journals, but through more easily accessible means. I also believe strongly in mentoring young professionals and genuine partnerships and collaboration, particularly with developing country institutions.
